LG G4 Rumors

LG G4 Rumors

It's hard to imagine that LG could possible outperform their feature model of the year with a more superior model in the coming year, but the Snapdragon Processor of the future is on it's way and LG has big plans for it.  The LG G4 plans to incorporate the yet to be released Snapdragon 810 and the rumors circulating around this beast of a processor will make this phone a game changer.

The LG G3 will almost certainly be replaced by the LG G4 at some point during 2015, and it’ll have to be something very special if it’s to be worthy of the name. While the G4 is unlikely to break cover officially until later on in 2015, rumors of its possible specifications are already beginning to gather.

Here’s what we think we know about the LG G4, all in one handy guide.

A change in strategy?

According to a report from China in late December, LG may include a stylus with the G4, and turn it into a competitor of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The rumor is based on a selection of trademarks recently registered by LG, including the G Scrawl, and an updated version of the G Pen. Currently, the LG G3’s closest rival is the Galaxy S5.

LG has already produced a spin-off version of the G3 with a stylus, unsurprisingly called the G3 Stylus, and has included a pen with older devices such as the G Pro Lite. Samsung has made the Note’s pen — called the S Pen — a major feature of its massive handset. However, the G3 doesn’t have such a large screen, making the inclusion of a stylus less important.

Does this mean the G4 will be considerably larger?

It’s possible. Another report has suggested LG will drop the G Pro series entirely, and instead concentrate on making the G4 really impressive. A larger, Note 4-style screen may be part of the package, opening the door for the rumored G Flex 2 to take over from the G3 as its standard Android flagship phone. After all, we’ve seen evidence LG wants to really push flexible-screened phones over the next few years.

A smaller screen?

Alternatively, LG may make the G4 slightly smaller than the G3. According to the same source, the G4 could feature a 5.3-inch Quad HD screen, with an almost bezel-less display. If so, LG might offer the stylus as an accessory instead of bundling it in with the phone. Other possible specifications include a Snapdragon 810 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 20.7-megapixel camera, a 3500mAh battery and a choice of 32GB or 64GB of internal memory.

When will it arrive?

The LG G3 was introduced at the end of May 2014, so there’s still plenty of life left in the high-spec phone. We don’t expect to see its replacement until around the same time in 2015. LG may be forced into an early reaction though, should Samsung impress with the similarly rumored (and equally inevitable) Galaxy S6, which is due anytime around Mobile World Congress in March.
We’ll update this report with more news and rumors about the LG G4, so check back often.

LG to Feature 20.7-megapixel Sensor and Advanced OIS

LG to Feature 20.7-megapixel Sensor and Advanced OIS

LG is a company that has risen from being a manufacturer a lot of people were worried about making the Nexus 4 to being mentioned in the same sentences as Samsung, Motorola, HTC and Sony.

No longer is LG a company people think of last when purchasing an Android smartphone, now it’s a first-choice manufacturer. The G2 and G3 have of course been the main reasons for their newfound success and reputation in the mobile arena and their cameras have been some of the best out there. A new rumor details a new camera sensor that could be destined for next year’s LG flagship.

While it’s of course too early to be talking about LG’s next flagship device with confidence, it’s always nice to get a glimpse of what’s ahead. During the Korea Electronics Show, LG showed off a new camera module of theirs that features a 20.7-megapixel sensor and improved Optical Image Sstabilization For those astute readers, you’ll have realized that 20.7-megapixels is the same resolution as the Sony Xperia Z2 and Z3 line of devices, but there’s no telling whether or not the sensor is of a similar design or even origin.

The OIS part of this is interesting as the new module features a larger correction angle of 0.7 which is a little bit better than the G3’s 0.5 correction angle. A larger correction angle means more compensation for movement when stabilizing for image capture.

LG WebOS smartwatch

LG reportedly working on a WebOS Smartwatch

This article is brought to you by Joel Joseph of the Morning Ledger.  Like Android for mobiles, the Android Wear platform for wearables which was announced earlier this year plans to take over most of the smartwatches in the market. Given that it’s based on the worlds most used mobile operating system, there’s a very high chance that it would soon end up in a number of new smartwatches that will make way in the market in the next few months.

At the time of launch, Google managed to attract a lot of notable partners like Samsung, LG, and Asus etc. But it looks like some of these companies may not just rely on this new OS for its wearables.

Samsung already announced three Tizen based smartwatches this year, including the new Gear S with its own 3G radio. So, even if the company has one Android Wear smartwatch, there are three other Tizen watches to compete with it.

And it looks like Samsung isn’t the only tech giant to work with another OS for its products as a new report says that LG is developing a new smartwatch running the infamous, Web OS.

We have recently heard some rumors about a new smartwatch from the company which had its own inbuilt cellular radio and Web OS could be a great alternative for such a standalone smartwatch.

If you have never heard about Web OS, don’t worry. The operating system didn’t quite hit it off with customers and the makers, Palm Inc. were later acquired by HP. Just last year, HP sold it to LG and the South Korean giant currently uses this OS on a number of its web enabled Smart TVs.

Given that LG owns the OS, the company has unlimited access to all of its source code, documentations and developers which makes it easier to make changes and tweak the operating system for a device like a smartwatch.

WebOS works on lightweight architecture and the overall UI too is card based which can make a great system for a smartwatch. This could be the reason why LG is trying to develop a smartwatch running on this platform.

The Verge was first to spot the WebOS smartwatch page on LG’s developmental portal earlier today, however as soon as the news spread, LG took down the website.

However, we luckily have a few images from the portal, which although doesn’t reveal much about the stage of development, still proves that the company is looking for different options for its upcoming smartwatches.

Amazon Fire Phone vs LG L Bello

Amazon Fire Phone vs LG L Bello

The L Bello is one of the newest smartphones released by LG targeting the younger generation of consumers, but compared to Amazon’s Fire Phone, it fails to impress in these sections: screen resolution, hardware performance and camera. Plus, the Amazon device allows you to contact the tech support in case you encounter some problems with your phone and need assistance.

Displays, designs and sizes

The beautiful LG L Bello was design for the teens, being a mid-range smartphone with a large display of 5inches (IPS LCD) supporting a resolution of 480x854pixels and 196ppi. Its look reminds us of another LG phone, the G2, which has the volume and power button below the rear camera. This phone measures 138.2×70.6×10.7mm, but we don’t have any information regarding its weight.

The Amazon Fire Phone is a little bit more impressive. Although it has a smaller screen of 4.7inches (IPS LCD), it supports a higher resolution of 720x1280pixels with 312ppi, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects both the front and the back, and there some functions worth mentioning: the hands-free scrolling system wide, swivel, auto-scroll and peek. The phone is narrower, measuring 66.5inches, it’s 139.2m tall and 8.9mm thick, and it weights 160grams.

Hardware and OS

The L Bello runs on Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) with 1GB of Ram and hosts an internal memory of 8GB which supports expansion with a TBC card. The device is powered by a decent quad core processor clocked at 1.3GHz.

The Fire Phone uses a combination of quad core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and an Adreno 330 GPU, coupled with 2GB of RAM, and has two variants of internal memories of 32 and 64GB, which can’t be expanded. This phone runs on an Android based operating system named Amazon Fire OS v3.5 (upgradable to v.3.5.1), with 3D Dynamic Perspective UI, which is based on four front cameras.

Cameras

Speaking of cameras, you’re probably curious which phone takes the best photos. In our opinion, the 13MP back camera on the Fire Phone does a great job, being helped by features such as autofocus, LED flash, optical image stabilization, HDR and geo tagging. Even the front camera is more advanced on this phone, having a sensor of 2.1MP.

The LG L Bello comes with an 8MP back camera with LED flash, autofocus, face detection, autofocus and geo tagging, and for video calling, it provides a poor 1MP front camera.

Batteries

Finally, the L Bello has an advantage over its rival, being equipped with a bigger battery of 2540 mAh, which is user replaceable. The Fire Phone has a non-removable Li-Ion 2400mAh battery which allows up to 22hours of talktime.

Prices

The LG L Bello is expected to come at a price of 287 dollars, while the Amazon Fire Phone costs only 99 cents with a two-year contract through AT&T.

LG LTE G Pad 8.0

LG LTE G Pad 8.0

In an effort to expand its leadership in LTE from smartphones to tablets, LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled an LTE version of the G Pad 8.0, offering blazing fast outdoor connectivity and portability for on-the-go media consumption. The LG G Pad 8.0 LTE offers the right balance of performance and price competitiveness and comes preloaded with the best of the LG G3 smartphone’s premium user experience (UX), delivering smooth multitasking capabilities and multimedia experience.

The LG G Pad 8.0 LTE includes a unique sync feature that delivers easy connectivity with other Android devices. With QPair 2.0, users can connect to their smartphones with Bluetooth to conveniently answer phone calls, receive notifications, and send text messages, directly from their LG tablet.

Other noteworthy features
in the LG G Pad 8.0 LTE include:

■ Touch & Shoot helps capture special moments quickly and intuitively by letting users tap anywhere on the G Pad display to focus and trigger the shutter in one single step, eliminating a time-consuming two-step process.

■ Gesture Shot makes taking selfies simple and fun. Opening and closing one’s hand in front of the lens starts a three-second countdown before triggering the shutter for brilliant, blur-free selfies.

■ Smart Keyboard makes typing on an 8-inch tablet display just as easy as typing on a smartphone. Smart Keyboard reduces input errors by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing typing habits and intuitively “knowing” what words the user intended to type.

■ Knock Code™, LG’s proprietary security feature that makes powering on and unlocking one fluid action, gives up to four users their own personal knock pattern so family members can share the LG G Pad without sharing their personal information.

“With the G Pad 8.0 LTE, LG is setting a higher standard for connectivity in emerging 4G markets,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Today’s on-the-go consumers demand speed and convenience wherever they are, at any time. If a 4G LTE infrastructure is in place, we want LG products to be first to take advantage of the fast network.”

The G Pad 8.0 LTE will begin shipping in key European countries starting this week followed by markets in Central and South America, Asia and CIS in the weeks to follow.

G Pad 8.0 Key Specifications:

■ Display: 8.0-inch IPS (1280 x 800 / WXGA)

Among a pool of LG G3 variants that we’re witnessing day after day, a certain Stylus model which hasn't been spoken about officially yet has been leaked by the company itself. A product movie for the newly launched G3 Beat is the perpetrator of this leak, as this video gives us our first glimpse at the upcoming phablet that’s set to act as stiff competition to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

LG G3 Stylus  As its name suggests, the device comes equipped with a stylus and a slot to house it in its body. However, there’s a slight departure from the LG G3 blueprint which has been spotted on this variant. As Android Central has pointed out, the G3 Stylus doesn't seem to feature the laser auto-focus technology of its parent device, if the video is clearly observed.

LG G Vista announced for Verizon

LG G Vista

announced for Verizon

LG has launched a new phone that is exclusively made for Verizon. Named the LG G Vista, the phone features a 5.7-inch HD display and an impressive 3,200 mAh battery. LG is hoping that these two features will lure more customers into its fold.

But will it live up to the hype? We can't tell, at least for now. Verizon is now selling the phone for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. You can also get it for $399.99, minus the two-year Verizon Wireless contract.

While the LG G Vista looks like the flagship G3, a quick glance at the specs will reveal a middle-range device. Its features include a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, a 1.5GB RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. Thankfully, there's a microSD slot to make way for more space. There's also an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3-megapixel on the front.  Where the LG G Vista falls short in the hardware, it makes up in the software. In addition to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the phablet is endowed with LG's "KnockCode" and "KnockOn" features, which is really sweet for the price. What are your thoughts about the LG G Vista? Would you recommend it to your friends on Verizon?

LG G Watch Overview

LG G Watch Overview

The LG G Watch is the South Korean firm's first attempt at an Android Wear device, as Google looks to tackle the wearable space head on before it sprouts too many disjointed frameworks and ecosystems.
It's one of three launch devices, although only itself and the Samsung Gear Live are currently available with the more sought after Motorola Moto 360 arriving later this year.

LG G Watch reviewAs these are early devices in a new ecosystem I'm not expecting perfection right off the bat, Android Wear is a new offering to the market and manufacturers will have to feel their way into the software.
It's early doors for app developers too, with only a handful preparing their applications for launch, but these numbers will grow - hopefully rapidly - over the next few months.
Back to the LG G Watch and you can pick one up now for £159, $229 (around AU$290). Oddly it's £10 cheaper than the Gear Live in the UK, but in the US the G Watch is $30 more expensive. Bizarre.
A kicker for Android Wear devices is the fact they'll work with any Android device (running Android 4.3 or higher), meaning you don't have to own a LG smartphone to take advantage of the G Watch.

As long as your handset is running at least version 4.3 then all you need to do is download the Android Wear app from Google Play to get the LG G Watch setup.
From within the Android Wear app you'll be able to see example functions of the G Watch, and you can even send demo cards to the watch to see how different information is displayed on the screen.
LG G Watch reviewThe G Watch sports a 1.65-inch 280 x 280 IPS display, which is slightly larger than the Gear Live which measures 1.63 inches, but the Samsung boasts a 320 x 320 resolution providing it with a 278 ppi compared to the LG's 240ppi.

In terms of power the G Watch is equipped with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and 512MB of RAM, plus there's 4GB of internal storage and a 400mAh battery (larger than the 300mAh offering in the Gear Live).
Those are a respectable range of specs, but there's nothing to really pique the interest - but perhaps that's the point. Smart watches are supposed to be functional, stylish and discreet, rather than feature packed and in your face.
